I grew up listening to my parents' recordings of Richard Tucker in his role as a Jewish cantor. One such recording, "Kol Nidre Service",is available on iTunes and it's still amazing to me. He had the ability to switch from operatic style to the plaintive cantorial mode seamlessly. He set the standard for cantors in my youth; it's a vocal art that has become rare these days in American synagogues.
In addition to our regular postings of news and ideas, this website offers a forum for all classical music lovers, audience members, and performers in the Monterey Peninsula region.
You are invited to submit your comments, thoughts, musings, and opinions about classical musical events in our community, or write about performances you've heard or been in. Post to the blog now!
The Classical Music Matters blog and website were conceived, designed and created by David Gordon, who serves as editor and webmaster.
